Jude's Birth Story

I know many of you wanted to read my birth story so here it is!

38 week appt: 2cm, 90% effaced, and baby at -1 station.
39 week appt: 2cm, 100% effaced, and baby at almost 0 station.

My doctor stripped my membranes at both appointments, but I felt like my baby boy was never going to come out. I had contractions from about week 35 and I was over it. After my 39 week appointment where I was having pretty bad contractions, I decided to go to yoga and squat him out. That didn’t quite work. I had contractions on and off for the next couple of days but they weren’t anything I could time.

Sunday morning I was feeling pretty crummy and decided to start making meals to freeze. I should have known I was nesting but I never thought about it. I cooked most of the day and realized about 3pm that the contractions could probably be timed. I was right, they were 12 minutes apart. About 7pm John and I decided to take a walk to get things moving. They were still consistent and were about every 10 minutes. I showered and made sure our bags were packed and tried to go to bed about 10pm. However, that did not happen. The contractions were getting worse. Around midnight I had John start timing them because they seemed to be right on top of each other with little breaks in between. After an hour of them being 3-5 minutes apart for a minute long we decided to go to the hospital.

There weren’t any positions that were comfortable and walking was the only way to get through them. We drove to the hospital about 1:30am and the nurse informed me that I was still only at 2cm. She gave me some meds that would either make the contractions worse if it was real labor or it would make them go away if it was false labor. I thought I was being sent home to die because I was in so much pain.

We got home, went to bed, and I breathed through the contractions until about 7am when they practically went away. They were still close together but not intense at all. I was so upset but sent John to work because mom was here just in case anything happened. I slept until about 11am when back labor hit me. I tried taking a bath but the only position I could tolerate was being in the frog position. My mom called my doctor’s nurse and explained the last 12 hours and she told me to come back to L&D. The contractions were so much worse than I ever thought possible. The drive was the worst part.

We got to L&D about 1:30pm and they took one look at me and put me straight into a room. I was 4cm and begging for an epidural. I had to wait about an hour, but when once I had it I was a very happy person. I (half) joked with my mom that the only position that worked was the fetal position. I spent 1:30pm-11:30pm at 4cm. I just knew my water needed to be broken, but they wouldn’t do it. Apparently baby was so low he pushed my bag of water to the side. Finally, around 11:30pm my doctor broke my water. In 2 and ½ hours, I went from 4-10cm. I was ready to push at 2am. During my practice push, my nurse made me stop because baby was coming. She called my doctor (who thankfully was already there) and my sweet baby boy was born at 2:12am after pushing for less than 10 minutes.

It was such a great experience.  I'm not sure I could have had a better birth story. It went pretty much as I had hoped. John and Mom were invaluable during that whole experience, including up until today. John and I aren't ready to make baby #2 by any means, but if I were guaranteed the same experience, I would do it over again.

Anyway, that's my story and I'll leave you with a picture of my favorite little man. :)

Crabby Judebug

John and I gave Jude a bath last night and we decided to keep him in his crab towel to keep him awake for awhile. We put him under the jungle gym and finally got to play with our little man!

Mommy loving on Judebug

Daddy having fun with Jude.

Riley loves his little brother and often gives him kisses on the top of his head.

Could he be any cuter?

Jude Has Arrived!!!

Our perfect little boy has made his way into this world! Jude David was born August 9th with a full head of hair weighing 7lbs,15oz and is 19 1/2 inches long. It was a long labor but thankfully I got an epidural and was able to relax until he was ready. I pushed about 10 minutes before I heard the best cry ever (which in turn made me cry). :) We are now settled back home. John and I had a very long night with him, but today he's sleeping and eating and we're getting a chance to just hold and enjoy him. I'll blog more later but I just wanted to put up some pictures for everyone. Some are on FB already.

Right after I got an epidural.

Meeting Jude for the first time. It still chokes me up thinking about it.

My little chunky monkey :)

His first bath.

Right after delivery.

Parents Visit

Mom and Keith have been here for over a week and we've been having a great time waiting for baby to arrive. With all of the contractions I had/have been having, we thought he would have arrived by now. Guess not. He's a sneaky little thing! :)

We have been relaxing, as well as going out to do things. As I sit here and write this I can't think of anything we've done. It's the pregnancy brain. They have helped clean the house, cook dinner, and do little odds and ends.

We went to Walmart the other day and the patio furniture was all on clearance, so John and I decided to (finally) buy an outdoor set. Later on John and Keith went to Home Depot and found an amazing gazebo tent type thing. Merry Early Christmas to us!! Mom and Keith got it for us for our Christmas gift and we LOVE it! They also put the whole thing together one morning after John went to work. We have been using it so much. We love to go out first thing in the morning and eat breakfast. John and I just ate lunch out there in the middle of the day. It's hot outside, but being under the shade with the breeze was perfect. I am looking forward to heading out there in the morning with my little man and relaxing in the fresh air. :)

Riley rocking my hairband. Poor guy had to go to the vet yesterday because his itching got really bad this past week. He is back on steroids and is peeing like crazy. At least the itching has stopped for the most part. That was so miserable for him. Otherwise, he's doing well and we are starting to find him in the baby's room more often.
Since the arrival of my parents, we have had our share of donuts! I love waking up to the smell of sugar. Ha! Thanks Mom and Keith for making donut runs!
Other than this, nothing much is going on. I don't want to travel too far just in case, so we are (im)patiently waiting for baby's arrival. We've had some family game nights which are a blast and I am looking forward to the next one! My due date is Wednesday and it's also my appt. day so hopefully I'll have some good news to share!

39 Weeks

*WARNING: I am not in the best mood today...*

How far along: 39 weeks/ 9 1/2 months pregnant/ Full Term
Total weight gain: 31lbs total.
Maternity clothes: Nothing fits. Even John's shirts are too short.
Sleep: It changes everyday. Sometimes I sleep all night and sometimes I'm up most of the night.
Best Moment this week: My parents arrival. My 4.0. And my doctor's appointment, though now I know it doesn't mean anything being in "early labor". That sh!t can last weeks.
Movement: Not alot.
Gender: Boy!
Labor signs: I've had them all week long. And yet, no baby.
Belly Button: Out unless there is a contraction.
Cravings: Not in a food mood these days.
What I miss: My skinny face. Also, my feet and legs are swollen everyday now. I'm ready for that to be over with.
Stretch Marks: No stretch marks yet except the dark line below and above my belly button.
What baby is up to: Coming down to the wire, your baby weighs around seven to eight pounds and measures 19 to 21 inches. Those measurements won't change much from now on, but his brain is still growing at an astonishing rate, a pace that will continue for the first three years of life. His pink skin has now turned whitish (even babies who'll eventually have darker skin appear whitish now — they haven't yet developed pigment). His head may have dropped into your pelvis by now, which makes your breathing easier but walking harder*** I copy and paste 'what baby is up to' from a baby website. The weight and length are just an average and I really have no idea how much he weighs. At my last appointment the doctor said he's measuring right on schedule so I'm assuming he is going to be somewhat of an average baby. No one really knows until he's born.*** :)
What I am looking forward to this week: Hanging out with my parents. Meeting my son. And doctor appt. tomorrow where he hopefully will accidentally break my water or something. :)
I'm in no mood to have my picture taken, so here's a belly shot.
Riley is ready to meet his brother. When baby is here we'll have a "Who Wore it Better" contest. :)
